Here are a few tips from Ron Glodoski:
Seven positive behavior strategies:
- Recognize individual differences in students.
- Make it safe in your classroom – eliminate all sarcasm and ridicule from your motivational techniques.
- Build a relationship with your kids – be there for that ONE kid.
- Be in a behavior solution business. Create extra learning opportunities – make it so simple you know they can do it.
- Teachable moments – take the time to teach what they can do differently.
- Teach everything you know to your kids. Model the behavior you want from them. Respect the power you have.
- If you ever remove a student from your classroom, find at least one thing you can compliment them on. Then call the parent and tell the principal about that compliment.

7. Give as much encouragement and positive reinforcement as you can.
8. Don’t ever tell a student that their problem is not a big deal.
9. Help your students know themselves. Ask questions.
